Loose or Broken Dental Crowns
If your dental crown has come loose or fallen off, we understand that it can feel unsettling, but there’s no need to worry. Yuba City Dentistry Group will guide you through the process and safely reattach or replace your crown.
What to Do If Your Crown Falls Out
- Save the crown: If it’s still in one piece, the crown may simply be reattached. If it’s broken or cracked, bring all pieces to your appointment so we can determine our next steps.
- Clean the crown: Rinse both your mouth and the crown with water to remove debris.
- Store safely: Place the crown in a clean container such as a plastic bag, pill bottle, or small box, so that you can bring it with you to your dentist appointment
- Call us: Contact Yuba City Dentistry Group at (530) 803-4977 so we can schedule you quickly for repair or replacement.
Professional Care You Can Rely On
A crown that comes loose may just need to be recemented in place, but it’s best to have a dental professional do this. Avoid risky do-it-yourself fixes using household glues that are unsafe and damage the tooth or crown further. You can trust our experienced team for a safe and lasting restoration treatment.

Crown Fell Out FAQs
Is a lost crown considered a dental emergency?
No, a lost crown is not usually an emergency, but timely dental care is needed to protect the exposed tooth and restore normal chewing. Contact us and we will schedule a same-day or next-day visit.
Can I glue my crown back in myself?
This is not recommended. Super glue and other household adhesives can cause tissue damage and complicate professional dental repair. If absolutely necessary, temporary dental cement from a pharmacy may be used until your appointment.
Can my original crown be reused?
In many cases, yes. If the crown and underlying tooth remain in good condition and the fit is accurate, we can clean and recement it. If there’s decay, fracture, or it no longer fits properly, replacement may be necessary.
What should I do with the crown?
Gently rinse the crown with water, avoiding harsh cleaners, and bring it with you to your appointment. Keeping all pieces helps us determine if it can be reused.
What can I eat until it’s repaired?
We recommend eating only soft foods and chewing as necessary on the opposite side of your mouth. This will help prevent discomfort and protect the newly exposed tooth.
Why do crowns loosen or fall off?
Crowns may fail for numerous reasons, including aging cement, decay at the margin (where the crown meets the natural tooth), bite shifts, teeth grinding, or trauma. At your dental visit, we will help determine the cause of your failed crown and provide suggestions on how to prevent it from happening again.
