What to Do if Your Dentures Break
- Stop using them: Wearing a broken denture may cut or irritate your gums, cheeks, or tongue.
- Don’t attempt home fixes: Household glues and adhesives are unsafe and may permanently damage the appliance.
- Collect all parts: Save every fragment of your denture for evaluation.
- Rinse and store properly: Gently clean the denture and place it, along with any broken pieces, in a clean bag or small container.
- Call our office: Contact Yuba City Dentistry Group at (530) 803-4977 for emergency assistance.

Dentures Broken or Cracked FAQs
Can I super glue my broken denture?
No. Glues are toxic in the mouth and can permanently damage acrylic, making repairs harder. Bring us the denture and all its pieces instead.
Should I keep my denture wet or dry until my visit?
Keep it moist in clean, cool water. Never store it dry, as that can cause warping.
Can a cracked denture be repaired the same day?
Minor cracks or a single missing tooth may be fixed in the office. More complex damage often requires lab repair, and we’ll let you know timing after an exam.
Why do dentures start cracking?
Dentures become damaged for different reasons such as dropping them, damage from heat, long-term wear, clenching or grinding, and jaw or gum changes that affect the fit.
When is a reline or remake better than a repair?
If the denture no longer fits your gums or breaks repeatedly, a reline, rebase, or new appliance may be the best solution. Implant support can also reduce future problems.
What if a clasp on my partial denture breaks?
Bring both the partial and broken clasp. In many cases, we can repair or replace the clasp and adjust the fit so it stays secure without harming nearby teeth.
